10 New Features We Want to See in the Minecraft 1.20 Update

10 New Features We Want to See in the Minecraft 1.20 Update

thanks to the Minecraft 1.19 Update, players have discovered a newfound trust in the game’s developers. They seem to be implementing all the features that community have been demanding for years. The new mangrove swamp biome is the biggest proof of the same. And if this trend continues for the next major update, we might see a lot of good news coming our way. With that in mind, we are here voicing some of the community’s demands, with the list of the best features we want to see added in the Minecraft 1.20 update.

10 New Features We Want to See in the Minecraft 1.20 Update

Minecraft 1.20 Update Expectations (2022)

Our list of expected features for Minecraft 1.20 covers a range of changes – both big and small. Use the table below to explore every one of them conveniently.

1. Bundles, Backpacks, & Inventory Management

Leaving chests aside, Minecraft doesn’t offer any reliable way to store, manage, and carry your items. And considering how the game has more interactive objects than any other sandbox games, players definitely need a way to sort their collections and manage inventory. We expect the Minecraft 1.20 update to bring a bundle like item that allows you to store a group of items within your existing inventory.

Alternatively, Minecraft can also introduce a mechanic that allows the players to expand their default inventory. A leather backpack would be a reliable way to introduce this feature to the game. Many other popular games offer similar solutions.

2. Combat Parity in Minecraft 1.20 Update

Right now, combat on Minecraft Bedrock and Java is drastically different. The most common example of the disparity is how you can spam attack enemies on Bedrock but have to wait after each attack on Java. Meanwhile, sweeping attacks are exclusive to the Java edition, and so are the combat-friendly axes.

Because of these differences, it becomes almost impossible for players to enjoy both editions of the game without learning separate combat mechanics. Hopefully, Minecraft 1.20 update can put an end to it.

3. Emerald Tools and Crafting

Emeralds, with their trading mechanic that’s based on the various types of villagers in Minecraft, work as the unofficial currency in game. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much the only purpose they serve. Even though emeralds spawn in the same manner as diamonds and other ores in Minecraftwe can’t use them in any crafting recipes.

This unfair treatment of the emerald ore puts them in an undesirable situation. And considering how Minecraft Dungeons already has emerald armor (pictured above), we should get some emerald recipes in the original game too.

4. Vertical or Wall-Based Redstone Builds

Focusing on a simpler demand, it’s about time Minecraft allowed players to place Redstone dust on places other than the floor. For now, you can use a sculk sensor to transfer Redstone signals vertically without any complex designs. But the developers can breathe a new life into the Redstone builds with Minecraft 1.20 if they allow the placement of Redstone on walls, and possibly, on roofs too.

5. Hollow Wood in Minecraft 1.20

The idea of hollow wood and hollow tree trunks was first teased in the concept art of a birch forest revamp in Minecraft Live 2021. We are yet to get this biome revamp, but hopefully, the Minecraft 1.20 update can lead the way.

The game already has hollow wooden mangrove trapdoors. So, hollow blocks of wood are not too far off from reality. And even if they won’t serve any functional advantage, you can still use the hollow wood to upgrade your minecraft house.

6. Species of Wolves

Minecraft has eleven types of catstwo variants of foxesand five colors of axolotls. But when it comes to wolves, we only have one variant. There are no biome based variants or color options for wolves in the game. And if the developers follow the lead of the best minecraft texture packsthis is a simple problem that can be solved in an upcoming update.

7. New End Dimension in Minecraft 1.20 Update

The Nether update of Minecraft (1.16.0) revamped the whole Nether dimension by adding new mobs, new structures, and even netherite to the game. And players, as you might expect, now demand the same treatment for the End Dimension in the Minecraft 1.20 update.

Once you have defeated the Ender dragon and collected the Elytra, there is no incentive for going back to the End dimension. Meanwhile, the Nether is inviting to players for a variety of reasons. With these major differences in mind, we expect a full-fledged End revamp in the Minecraft 1.20 update.

8. Unused Mobs

Minecraft’s developers have a notorious history of creating conceptual mobs and never implementing them in the game. But what’s truly tragic are the mobs that exist within the game but don’t have any purpose or spawn mechanic.

These unused mobs include:

  • giant (zombie)
  • Zombie Horse
  • Elder Guardian Ghost
  • Illusionthere
  • Killer Bunny
  • Jungle Villagers
  • Swamp Villagers

Realistically, the Minecraft 1.20 update can’t add all of these mobs to the game. But we still hope that at least some of these mobs can get justice before another entry makes it to the list. Also, let’s not forget about fireflies, which were supposed to come with the Minecraft 1.19 update, but didn’t make the cut. We hope the developers add fireflies to the game with the next update.

9. Fletching Table

Other than serving as a job site block, the fletching table has no purpose in minecraft. It looks and spawns the same way as many other functional block in the game but doesn’t offer any use to the players. If the Minecraft 1.20 update focuses on combat changes, we might get a usable fletching table, as it’s directly related to the arrows.

10. New Biomes and Announced Features

Finally, the largest feature that we expect from Minecraft 1.20 update is the implementation of some of the announced biomes alongside their mobs and vegetation. You can find out more about these biomes in our dedicated guide to Minecraft 1.20.
