History of Alamut Castle in Assassin’s Creed
In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Alamut Castle is where the Hidden Ones operate from. This is the creed that ultimately comes to be called Hassassin. In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the castle is shown to be under construction and not yet completed. Since the game is set in 861 BCE, the castle is currently being built on the hilltop.
The Alamut Castle is where the expansion of the Hidden Ones begins, which morphed into the Assassin’s Brotherhood and became much more famous when Knights Templers began their Third Crusade. You may know this place if you’ve played Assassin’s Creed Rogue and read a few additional books based on the games. Mirage is the first game to feature Alamut Castle.
This almost matches the actual history recordings of Alamut Castle. In real world history, Alamut Castle was built around 840 AD by the Justanid ruler of Daylam. This castle was later conquered in 1088 by one Hasan-i Sabbah. Fans of the series may recognize this name, as Hassan-i Sabbah gets the credit forming the modern brotherhood of Assassins in the game.
His son, Hassan the Younger, would eventually become the leader of the Levantine Assassins, who created their sovereign state of Masyaf in Assassin’s Creed. In AC Mirage, Alamut Castle also houses one of the ancient Isu Temples, and the Hidden Ones guard it from the elusive Order.
Can you visit Alamut Castle in Assassin’s Creed Mirage?
While Alamut Castle has an important historical influence on the overall history of Assassin’s Creed, the treatment of the area was a bit disappointing in AC Mirage. The The Alamut Castle region is restricted. After the prologue ends, you’ll experience the region for the first time. Since this is a base of operations for the Hidden Ones, Basim is naturally brought here to learn the ways of the faith. During this period we can see a few parts of Alamut.
This is the only time you can experience Alamut Castle. Otherwise, the entire game takes place in the walled city of Baghdad. Only during the climax of the game do we return to Alamut Castle in AC Mirage. Even during this encounter, you can only explore a limited portion of the area. Therefore, Alamut Castle is just a location that acts as a setting to continue the story. It is important here in the story, as the Brotherhood of Assassins was born in this unique place. Unfortunately, giving a little more space to control the area would certainly have been a welcome addition.
