While there exist’Made in India“iPhones, we all know that these are only just being assembled in the country and the main development is happening in China. Apple is looking to make a move from China and this could happen soon as Apple could develop the iPhone 17 in India for the first time! Here’s what this means.
Finally a real ‘Made in India’ iPhone!
Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has done just that suggested That Apple is pushing back the new product introduction (NPI) for the vanilla iPhone 17 to India, replacing China as the main option. This could start in the second half of 2024 and the launch will take place in the second half of 2025.
The reason that only the standard model will be developed in India is that the design development is less difficult, which would mean less design risks. Even in the current scenario, only the standard models are assembled in India.
It is suggested that Apple will increase the percentage ‘Made in India‘ iPhones worldwide 20-25% in 2024. Currently this is 10-14% of global shipments. The tech giant also wants to reduce Chinese production in Zhengzhou and Taiyuan by 35-45% and 75-85% respectively.
This comes after it was announced That Tata will make iPhones in India after it acquired the Wistron manufacturing plant in Bengaluru. This is also likely to happen in about two years, so there seems a good chance that Tata will make the iPhone 17 entirely in India to compete with Foxconn, which has a 75-80% share of iPhone production in the country. .
This will help India become a more prominent market for Apple and could eventually see all iPhone models produced. If the development takes place in India, it could finally give users some peace of mind as costs can finally come down. As of now, users in India have to pay around 40% tax (including customs and GST) and this can be reduced.
Since the details shared by Kuo are not official, we will have to take this with a grain of salt. This development will take a few more years and therefore we will just have to wait and see what happens. So stay tuned for further updates and don’t forget to share your thoughts on the same in the comments below!
