Today, Apple made the beta version of iOS 17.2 available to developers, following the release of iOS 17.1 to the general public earlier this week. iOS 17.2 developer beta brings the most anticipated feature of iOS 17: the Journal app. During the launch of iOS 17 at the WWDC 2023 stage, Apple teased the new Journal app, but said it would be released in a future version of iOS 17. Now the app is finally available. This is what the iOS 17 Journal app resembling.
iOS 17 Journal app released
If you’re using the recently posted iOS 17.2 developer beta, you’ll automatically see the new Journal app shortly after installing the beta update. As Apple said at the WWDC event, the Journal app lets you capture your precious moments using audio, video, and text-based input. The standout feature of the iOS 17 Journal app is its journal suggestions based on your daily activities.

For example, if you have enabled location for photos, the app will ask you to record the photos from your trip into a diary to create a memory. Likewise, you’ll also see prompts based on your music listening activity, exercise, the podcasts you listen to, and more.
Journal suggestions in the Journal app are based on the data collected using machine learning on the device. You can also choose whether to share your location, music, workout activity, and photos with the Journal app for suggestions.
You can turn Journaling suggestions on and off by going to the Settings app and tapping the Journal app from there.

Since keeping a diary is something very personal, you can lock diaries with Face ID or a passcode. Most importantly, diaries can also be synced to iCloud, so you can access them on all devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID.
Now that Apple has released the Journal app in the iOS 17.2 beta, it is highly likely that the app will be available to everyone once Apple releases the stable iOS 17.2 update.
In the meantime, if you don’t want to install iOS 17.2 developer beta just to get the Journal app, we’ve put together a list of Alternatives to diary apps you can get your hands on it right now.
