Bioware’s Mass Effect series is one of the few games with a long legacy. Previously, it spawned a mini-franchise of books, comic books and films. And while these helped shape the sci-fi universe, the first three games have managed to remain evergreen. Naturally, the fanbase was eager for a new entry in the series after Andromeda. However, outside of the initial tease, we haven’t received any substantial updates from the developer. But just when things were quiet, Bioware decided to fashionably tease the upcoming Mass Effect game on N7 Day.
Bioware releases teasers for new Mass Effect game
Every year, Bioware and the Mass Effect community celebrate the franchise in November. It is called ‘N7 Day’ and is organized November 7th, and fans share their work with the community as a thank you to the franchise. And similarly, Bioware also shares a few things about the franchise on this date. Why on November 7? N7 is a code for people with the highest skill level in the System Alliance Military in Mass Effect. Commander Shepard, the main character of the first three titles, had this ranking. Ultimately, this became synonymous with the series as a whole.
That’s why Bioware celebrated N7 Day this year by sharing the first real glimpse of what appears to be the upcoming Mass Effect project. It initially started with certain coded teasers that shared brief glimpses of a person walking. The first video was called Epsilon. Thirty minutes later they dropped another teaser, giving us a clearer look at the brand new suit. They shouted this video Defiance.
Finally, an hour and thirty minutes later we received another video, which seemed like a conclusion to these videos. She called it Nebula. When you stitch these three videos together, you can watch this teaser video, which Bioware eventually posted to YouTube.
The video shows a person wearing a brand new N7 suit walking down a hallway. A jacket and suit that will surely make cosplayers happy with its design. We also get a brief look at a brand new pistol and the helmet the individual athlete is wearing.
Beyond that, we didn’t get anything substantial surrounding the upcoming Mass Effect game; unless the sharp-eyed fans of the series dissect this video and spot something new. Moreover, during the original plagueAndromeda is mentioned in the following text:
/////ACCESS CODE: EPSILON
/////ACCESS CODE ACCEPTED
/////SECONDARY ENCRYPTION DETECTED
/////VJBSVU-XXXX-XXXXXXX
/////ANDROMEDA DISTRESS SIGNAL DETECTED
/////YEAR SENT: [REDACTED]
/////AUDIO TRANSCRIPT: ALTHOUGH THEY SHOULD NOW KNOW NOT TO UNDERESTIMATE HUMANS [REDACTED]
This indicates that the new Mass Effect title may be a continuing the Andromeda storyline. Perhaps a new team will try to track this distress signal from Andromeda. Or they link the original story from the trilogy to Andromeda. Nevertheless, this is the first in-engine teaser we’ve received about Bioware’s new Mass Effect game.
The first tease was in 2020, via a trailer called ‘Mass Effect Will Continue’. It shows Liari T’Soni finding a remnant of N7 armor on a snowy planet.
We then received official artwork from Bioware during N7 Day 2021, giving us an indication of what we can expect from the new Mass Effect. We saw four individuals standing on a rocky planet, with a fifth individual standing away. We also got a first look at a new spaceship.
We then received 2022 during the N7 Day another teaser from Bioware for the New Mass Effect, where we received a mysterious transmission from what appeared to be Liara T’Soni via an animated image of a cruiser spaceship. They originally shared it as garbled audio, which the community decoded. And finally, here we celebrate N7 Day 2023.
