If you come back here, you’ll know how often I talk about this simple but frustrating NYT wordplay. For once, though, my playthrough with Connections today was quick and easy. If you want to play the game with the same ease, welcome aboard. We’ll discuss what exactly the answer is for the November 4 NYT Connections, along with hints to help you get started. So, without further ado, let’s jump in.
Tip for today’s connection themes
If you want to know more about what today’s categories are based on, but don’t want the exact answer, check out these subtle hints first.
- Yellow category – You have to be ready
- Green category – Empty containers
- Blue category – Can you find the clue?
- Purple category – Maybe it’s time to be environmentally conscious
Additional tip: You may need to play more board games for today’s blue category.
We’d love to go into more detail about this, but the tips in this section are the best we can do. They are closely related to the categories that matter today, so think long and hard before you scroll down.
Spoiler warning #1: Although this section provided hints for the categories, they will be named in the next section. It will spoil the four categories for today’s Connections puzzle, so proceed with caution.
The names of the contemporary compound categories
If you’re tired of us beating around the bush, here are the themes for today’s categories for the NYT Connections game.
- Yellow – WAYS TO PREPARE
- Vegetable – HOLLOW CYLINDERS
- Blue – WEAPONS FROM THE GAME CLUE

The yellow and green categories remain easy to guess if you take your time and solve it patiently, which we highlight as one of the best tricks to fix NYT Connections. Even the purple one is simple enough these days. However, the blue category requires some of the pop culture knowledge we keep mentioning. If you still can’t find the answer, tap and scroll down.
Spoiler warning #2: The next section contains the answer to today’s puzzle, and you will find all the words in their exact categories. So be careful if you don’t want to be spoiled.
Connections Reply by November 4
Have you finally given up and are you ready for the answer? The answer to today’s Connections puzzle is:
- HOLLOW CYLINDERS – Hose, pipe, straw, tube
- WAYS TO PREPARE – Drill, practice, study, train
- WEAPONS IN THE GAME INSTRUCTIONS – Candlestick, knife, rope, wrench
- “E-” THINGS– Cigarette, bicycle, ticket, sport

Thank the universe for the one time I had a fairly easy experience with NYT Connections. The green category was easy this time because Hose and Pipe helped me quickly make the connection in my mind. It was the same with practice and practice, where I thought about the army first and preparation second. While I even suspected the category E stuff because of cigarettes, I had no idea about Blue because I never played Cludedo. This took a long time to figure out.
But it just so happens that we have a colleague who is a board game fanatic and who recognized it straight away. So I typed in the words and got my answer for Connections on November 4th.
So yeah, these are the answers for NYT Connections for today. How was your experience solving this word puzzle? Where did you get stuck when you did that? Let us know in the comments below.
