OnePlus Fixes Its Predecessor’s Biggest Shortcoming

While OnePlus continues to release the flagship and excite users, it is also missing a few key things. One of the things that has been sorely missing for a while is wireless charging for the company’s phones. However, OnePlus is finally addressing this in the upcoming OnePlus 12. Today Li Jie, Chairman from OnePlus China has shared several details about the phone, including the return of wireless charging!

Wireless charging has been added to the OnePlus 8Pro and carried to the OnePlus 10 Pro with fast wireless charging up to 50W with Warp Attack. However, OnePlus unfortunately wireless charging removed his OnePlus 11 flagship. This sudden removal of a widely available smartphone feature felt kind of weird.

While some call ‘wireless charging’redundant‘ and even a ‘waste of money“I believe differently. You see, the point of wireless charging isn’t to provide the fastest speeds. However, having both is a very welcome feature, and that’s exactly what OnePlus did when they introduced it to their smartphones.

With wireless charging you can easily charge your phone without any hassle some friction. Yes, it takes ten seconds to simply connect a cable. But if you’re busy, you can simply pick the phone up from the wireless charging pad when you need it and then put it back away to charge instead of messing around with cables, it’s a much easier process!

With the rising cost of OnePlus smartphones, this became an integral part OnePlus 12 to charge wirelessly. This has been confirmed on Weibo now. The president of OnePlus China directly stated that the OnePlus 12 will feature the much-awaited wireless charging feature. We should hear more about the speeds it will support soon. As for expectations, the OnePlus 10 supports Pro 50Wso the OnePlus 12 could support or even support the same speed higher wattage (hopefully).

Besides bringing back wireless charging, the company is also shedding light on the camera setup of the upcoming phone. OnePlus 12 will be the LYT-808 flagship sensor. It has been optimized and developed in a collaboration between OnePlus and Sony. The same camera is present on the OnePlus opened. This primary camera sensor is 1/1.43 inch, which translates to a ~0.7 inch camera sensor.

Speaking of other cameras, the OnePlus 12 is also expected to have a ‘periscope telephoto‘ camera sensor. OnePlus’ Chinese president also said that this periscope structural design can meet “both needs” of “telephoto range” and “high-quality sensors.” While that’s a loose translation from Chinese, it looks like the OnePlus 12 will have a very dynamic camera setup.

Finally, an ultrawide camera with IMX 851 sensor has also been mentioned. It’s described as having features like a “13-channel multi-spectral sensor,” supposedly exclusive to flagship phones. Incidentally, OnePlus and Hasselblad have teamed up once again to bring us a highly optimized camera system on the upcoming flagship smartphone. You can do the Weibo message about the camera.

The OnePlus 12 will be released on December 4, 2023, in China, according to company reports. It definitely looks attractive, and hopefully the hype for this new phone will be worth it.
