In addition to the new tank hero Mauga, many players had requested a rework of Roadhog. Their wishes have now been granted as Overwatch has revealed its rework of the hero. Let’s discuss it below.

Roadhog in Overwatch 2 gets an overhaul: all new changes

Roadhog is a tank hero in Overwatch 2. His role revolves around being one high damage character, and he also plays a role in picking up specific enemies with his chain hook, which allows him to drag enemies to an extremely close distance. As part of its rework, there are some major changes that Roadhog receives as part of a Overwatch 2 update, which goes live today November 14, 2023.

The official Overwatch 2 retail patch notes patch notes are live. They were also shared in a Twitch stream, so we already have the details. We talked about it all Roadhog changes below:

  • Scrap gun (first weapon)
    • Secondary fire functionality has been removed
    • Damage per shot increased from 150 to 160.
    • Number of shotgun pellets reduced from 25 to 16.
    • Shotgun Pellet Damage increased from 6 to 6.25
    • Fire a shrapnel volley of 4 large projectiles into the center of the shot
    • Each shrapnel causes 15 damage
    • Critical damage multiplier has been reduced from 2x to 1.5x
  • Take a breather (healing ability)
    • It is now activated by holding down the secondary fire button
    • Cooling of power is now 1 second, down from 8 seconds
    • A new resource meter has been added, which charges when not in use
    • It takes 12 seconds to charge ‘Take a breather‘power completely
    • Heal 450 hp in 3 seconds with full charge
    • No longer amplifies the healing received upon termination
    • Damage reduction while using skills is reduced from 50% to 30%

There is also one new power known as Pig pen. With this, Roadhog launches a trap that can slow enemies with a movement speed reduction and damage them at a rate of 30 damage per second. If the Pig Pen is initially activated directly on the enemy, it can also deal 60 damage at this time.

These changes are quite interesting. The primary weapon has changed drastically. It appears to have been polished in certain aspects, and it will be interesting to see how the new shrapnel burst mechanism in the weapon works.

It is also underrated when it comes to its critical damage, shotgun pellet count, and secondary fire removal, which made the shotgun quite versatile. I loved playing the pre-patch Roadhog tank hero in the game. However, I’ll have to see for myself if this complete Roadhog overhaul in Overwatch 2 makes sense.
