Steamdeck is one of the best handheld gaming consoles you can buy in the market today. It has truly exceeded everyone’s expectations when it comes to optimization in both hardware and software areas. Valve released an update just got an OLED display, a bigger battery and other upgrades. Still a second generation Steam deck not coming out anytime soon, as confirmed by Valve. So, if you’re curious about when Steam Deck 2 is coming, read on.
After the launch of the Steam Deck OLED, several people have questions about the next-gen console. So far, the immense popularity of the console in the market has led to a completely different level hype for his successor. IGN spoke to Valve designer Jay Shaw and asked him “how far away would a potential Steam Deck 2 be.”
In response, Jay said: “I don’t know. It’s going to take a while. I think it’s going to take a while. We don’t have a set date. I think we’re going to wait until the technology presents itself in a way that we find interesting and until it team really wants to make that leap. We’re very proud of this version of Steam Deck and this is it. This is the one we’re most happy with and we think customers will be too. So we’re always thinking about Steam Deck 2, but I think we’re so pleased here that this is really the kind of high-end of what we wanted to do.”
While Valve is thinking about a Steam Deck 2, the team is waiting before taking that leap. As soon as the current available technology evolves to the point where the team thinks they can create a new console, they will! The same time frame was revealed by product designer Lawrence Yang Bloombergwho said it won’t happen again in the next two to three years.
Despite all this, the future of portable consoles looks bright. We’ve seen more powerful handhelds emerge like the ROG ally. But the new OLED version and the original console still have the same level of performance. This has left many people asking about the Steam Deck 2. The next console should come with a much-needed improvement to the internal specs. Valve is taking its time creating a next-gen Steam Deck 2, but hopefully it’ll be worth the wait.
