Download This Nifty Tool Turns the MacBook Pro Notch into a Useful Touch Bar for free
Since Apple put an iPhone-like notch on the M1 Pro and M1 Max powered 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro there was a lot of talk about it earlier this year. While the notched screen on the laptops provides additional screen space, it is does nothing special. A new feature in one of the best macOS utility apps can now turn the notch area of MacBook Pro models into a TouchBar-like space with dedicated space for useful shortcuts and widgets.
Notch Bar turns MacBook Pro Notch into a Touch Bar
BetterTouchTool is a popular utility for macOS that allows users to customize various input devices on your Mac to make them more useful. So, after the release of the MacBook Pro models with notches earlier this year, the tool added a new Notch Bar feature that allows users to add a black bar on either side of the notch to hide it on the latest MacBook models.
Now you could say that there are many third party apps that can do that to hide the weird notch on the MacBook Pro devices. Even Apple shared an official support post that describes how users can adjust apps to appear below the notched area. However, BetterTouchTool’s Notch Bar feature takes it to another level by allowing users to add various widgets and shortcuts to the black bar that hides the notch.
For starters, you can add the weather widget to the Notch Bar to constantly display the current weather in your area or add shortcuts to adjust system volume or brightness of the display. You can also add an emoji button to the Notch Bar to quickly access the Emoji keyboard while typing an email or composing a social media message.
Plus, you can even customize the icon, colors, and label of each of the buttons on the Notch Bar to give it a more personalized look. And since the Notch Bar is ubiquitous, you can access the widgets and shortcuts from any screen on your device. Hence the Notch Bar feature on BetterTouchTool essentially converts the notched area into a Touch Bar-like interface, which Apple has eliminated from the latest MacBook models.
in a recent video on YouTube, Andreas Hegenberg, the developer of BetterTouchTool, demonstrated two types of orientation for the Notch Bar. The first hides the macOS menu bar until you bring your cursor to the top of the screen, and the other places the notch bar above the static menu bar.
Now, while the Notch Bar feature is quite intriguing, it’s worth mentioning it is still in beta phase. As a result, it contains a few bugs, which need to be ironed out by the developer. However, the feature should be ready and bug-free in the coming days.
You can try BetterTouchTool for free for a 45-day trial. However, to use the tool for your macOS devices, you need to purchase a license from his official website.
