Nearly a year ago, Meta removed the view-once feature for photos and videos from its WhatsApp apps for macOS and Windows. Loved by most, the removal of this feature was frowned upon. However, it looks like Meta is adding the feature back in the latest version WhatsApp for desktop update.
Initially noticed by WABetaInfo, the view-once feature makes its debut in the WhatsApp Desktop versions. This includes the official WhatsApp Windows and macOS apps and the latest versions of WhatsApp Web.
WABeta further claims that the feature is currently ‘unroll‘ and all compatible customers should receive it soon. Sending ‘view once‘ messages will be possible from WhatsApp for iPad also.
Of ‘view once‘ photos and videos basically allows you to send any photo or video that can only be viewed once by the recipient. Likewise, if you receive a one-time view message, you won’t be able to see it again after a closer look. This is a great feature to use and it was removed due to ‘privacy concerns’. However, many users complained about its removal. Fortunately it comes back.

The importance of this position is immeasurable. There are countless situations when you need to send or receive “one-time” messages with photos or videos. Before this new change, if you were on WhatsApp web (or PC application) watching a chat in which you were sent a ‘view-once’ message, you wouldn’t even be able to view it and you would need a phone to see it message. Now WhatsApp’s cross-platform messaging features work fine.
What do you think about the addition of view-once photos and videos to WhatsApp for Windows (and macOS) applications? Isn’t it a useful feature that improves privacy on the online messaging platform? Let us know in the comments below.
