In 2019, the Clown Prince of Crime hit our screens joker played by Joaquin Phoenix. If I’m honest, the way he played the role of Joker, based on what made Joker-Joker, was the best I’ve ever seen. Joaquin Phoenix’s talents beautifully depicted the pain and fear that veered into the macabre. All these elements made the first film so successful that Todd Phillips returns with a sequel. Joker 2, titled Joker: Folie À Deuxis scheduled for release in late 2024, so in the meantime, let’s go over everything we know about Joker 2 so far.
Joker 2 release date
Five long years after the first Joker movie, the official release date of Joker 2 has passed confirmed on October 4, 2024. We know that Todd Phillips finished writing the script in 2022. But production on this film was halted in light of the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
After the the strikes came to an end recently, post-production on Joker 2 was accelerated by Warner Bros Studios. According to certain reports, it is Joker: Folie À Deux has doubled the budget compared to the first Joker movie, so we can expect this one to be even bigger and crazier than the last one.
Joker 2 Cast: Are There New Characters?
Joker: Folie À Deux has put together quite an interesting list of cast members and characters. The list of actors who will appear in Joker 2 has been officially revealed. While they haven’t revealed which characters each actor will be playing, we do know we’ll get to see them Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker 2 along with Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker.

One of the most surprising cast reveals of Joker: Folie À Deux is Lady Gaga’s recording. Previously we didn’t know what role she would play, but that led to this surprising revelation. Previously, Todd Phillps had announced that Joker 2 will be a part musical, so the casting of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn seems to point in that direction.
In the tweet above, Lady Gaga can be seen as Harley Quinn. However, her version of the character seems to be quite different from that of Margot Robbie’s adaptation. Now we just have to wait for the screening of Joker 2 to see what Lady Gaga has in store for us.
Zazie Beetz will reprise her role Sophie Drummond and other actors set to appear in Joker 2 in unspecified roles include Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Lofland, Catherine Keener and Harry Lawtey. Here is the confirmed Joker 2 cast list so far:

Joker 2 plot (speculated)
As for the plot of Joker 2, I have certain theories about it. It was previously announced that part of Joker: Folie À Deux takes place in Arkham itself and that it will be a partial musical. If that’s the case, casting Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker 2 makes sense.
It appears that in this film, Joker is captured and placed in Arkham Asylum for causing a riot. As far as I think, the musical elements of the film will be in Joker’s head himself.
We may see Joker escape from Arkham Asylum and become the ‘Clown Prince of Crime’. Additionally, I believe that Harley Quinn’s story will parallel that of Joker since the title Joker: Folie À Deux translated to “delusions or mental illnesses shared by two people who are closely connected.
If you’re not aware of Harley Quinn’s character arc, she was a psychologist at Arkham Asylum, whose real name was Harleen Quinzel. She was assigned to diagnose Joker. However, she found him quite relatable and fell in love with him, eventually going insane as well.
In this movie, we may see Harleen Quinzel gradually transform into Harley Quinn. Joker 2 could show us how Joker and Harley “share” the same mental illness. This could lead to them finally coming together and justifying the title of this film.
